Swimming Sports

Well done to everyone for taking part in our swim sports day and giving your all. You helped to make it a really fun event. Room 5 swimmers did particularly well and stood out to me...not that I am biased!

A particular congratulations to these two Room 5 children for winning just about everything there was to win at championship level!

Recovery

I spotted these two on the field today at lunch time. After working hard all morning they were clearly enjoying some time out.

Swimming events

Apologies to parents for running over time today after the bell. For those children who did not receive their event numbers yet, can you please come and find me at Ocean Spa when you arrive tomorrow. I have a run down of the event numbers for each room 5 child and can write them all on your hands first thing.

Many thanks,
Mr S

Even more co-operative games

This game is called the human knot.  The chidlren must work together to untangle the knot they have gotten themselves in to.  They are not allowed to let go of each others hands in the process.  If we all move at the same time we will be pulling against each other.  This game highlights the need for effective communicaiton, turn taking and problem solving.  The children in this group showed resilience on a number of occasions to work through the problem and experience success.  Well done group.

More co-operative games

Here, some of our class members are attempting to pass two hoops around the circle of people, with both hoops travelling in different directions.  Note the use of patience, perseverance and effective communication skills, both talking and listening.  Well done folks!

Partners in our own learning!

Today in room 5 we carried out an individual, group and whole class brainstorm to find out what the class wants to learn about this year. Here are some of the ideas we came up with.  Looks like it's going to be a busy year!

Art Deco Day

Thanks for jumping in to Art Deco Day with such enthusiasm room 5. What a wonderful range of outfits!

Art Deco Day

Just a reminder that it's Art Deco Day tomorrow at NCS.  There is a parade at 9am so that everyone can admire the outfits that you bring and there is also a picnic lunch at 12:30pm.  Parents and caregivers welcome!

Hope to see you there.

Meet the Teacher

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers that came to our meet the teacher afternoon today. Thanks also to those who have come in to say hello in the last few days who couldn't make it today.

I would just like to write a few reminders and maybe a couple of things I forgot to mention regarding camp.

Your child does not need to bring:
A pillow or bed sheet
A wetsuit (these can be provided for those that don't have one)
A hat (we will take their school hats)

Your child must bring:
A pair of covered shoes (particularly for horse riding)

It is recommended that your child brings:
Insect repellent
Sunscreen

If anyone has any questions or concerns about camp or any other school matter please feel free to drop in and see me.

Many thanks
Eddie Schulberg

Co-operative games

We have been learning to work co-operatively to achieve shared goals. In order to succeed we have to demonstrate our school values. Can we show respect, integrity and empathy when working together? Can we persevere when the challenge is difficult? As you can see, we had a lot of fun too! The games we played were: the human knot, the chair game and shark infested waters.

Hi!

Hi there and welcome to the 2014 blog for room 5. I hope this will prove to be a little window in to your child's classroom and their learning!
