Kiwi Short Animated Film

1. Identifying what we know already about kiwi
2. Identifying facts from the film
3. Coming to our own conclusion

Post Production

This week the groups have been involved in post production.  They have added title pages, recorded their scripts and added sound effects to enhance their movies.  They have solved countless problems throughout the process of making their films and been engaged in many debates.  This trend has continued throughout post production as they negotiate how best to say a line, how well each sound effect fits, etc, etc.  Here are some photos of the children in many locations trying to find a quiet place with no background noise.

FIlming!

It has been a very exciting two or three weeks in room 5.  We have been filming and editing our movies through post production.  They are really coming to life now.  Here are a few photos showing some of the work that has been going on in class.

I would also like to say thank you to Mandy Otter for offering her expertise as a graduate of the EIT film school.  Mandy stepped in to help us at short notice for an entire week of afternoons.  She helped to support the groups in a very unobtrusive way, allowing them to have creative control and be hands on at all times.

Thanks also again to Anthony (Millie's dad) for supporting us through this process as well.  Anthony helped out whilst in the midst of moving house and worked closely with one or two groups to help them explore different camera angles and many other things.

Fred

Some more spelling homework, this time from Georgia.  She used five of her spelling words (all with a silent letter) to create a poem of silly sentences about poor old Fred!

Fred had a wrinkle that looked wrong in the song that was very long.
Fred's wrist was more like a fist and he wrote it on a list.
Fred got to wrap a cap with a tap and a phone with an app.
Fred wrecked his neck in the middle of tech.

The Funny Things You See On The Street

For spelling homework, the children in Room 5 have to choose from a range of different spelling activities to complete.  One of these activities is to use five of your spelling words to create a newspaper article.  I had to ask Madeline to share her article as it cracked me up!  Enjoy.


An unarmed man walked in to a shop unashamedly wearing only his underwear.  He demanded some trousers which were unattainable as he was in a lolly shop.  The shopkeeper took pity on him and gave him her own pair.  It was unavoidable to say no so he raced out in a pair of unattractive pink trousers.

Building Character...s

Many thanks to Anthony, yet another skilled parent helper, for coming in to share his knowledge of character making using modelling clay.  Today the children had a choice between clothing and painting wire characters or forming their characters using clay.  Anthony and Cheryl gave a lesson on each and our inquiry groups chose which material they would like to use and therefore which lesson to watch.

We all learned a lot and over the next week will put this new knowledge to the test to see if we can use the skills we have been shown to create our own characters.

Thank you Cheryl!

A massive thanks to Cheryl, another wonderful Room 5 parent helper, for coming in to assist us in creating backgrounds and props.  Cheryl worked tirelessly from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm to support the class.  Without her (or her supreme art skills and resources) we would not have been able to achieve so much and to such a high standard.  Cheryl's influence helped to transform the classroom in to a workshop where the children had complete freedom to bring their ideas to life.
